Simultaneous RXTE and Infocus Measurements of AGN Compton Reflection Spectra
Abstract
We propose an 8 hour simultaneous observation of the Seyfert galaxies NGC 5506 and NGC 7469 with RXTE and with our group's hard x-ray imaging spectrometer InFOCuS. The InFOCuS bandpass of 20-40 keV is well placed to allow an observation of the Compton reflected continuum from these AGN that is expected to peak at 30 keV (Lightman and White, 1988). The high sensitivity of InFOCuS will also allow a better measurement of this component than has been made in the past with Ginga (Nandra and Pounds, 1994). Simultaneous observations with RXTE will enable us to simultaneously fit the RXTE PCA soft x-ray emission and the hard x-ray data from InFOCuS. This information will allow us to constrain the models of Compton reflection and hard x-ray emission in Seyfert AGNs.
