Giant Magnetoresistance in C/Fe/Cr/O Film
Abstract
For the first time by liquid gas and hot filament device a Giant MagnetoResistance (GMR) carbon film was grown on steel and glass substrates. Atomic composition and the thickness of the film were measured by Rutherford back scattering (RBS). The atomic composition of the film on glass was 30% Fe, 18% Cr, 13% O and 39% C. Some hydrogen were in the film which we were not able to detect by RBS. The room temperature resistivity of the film was 8.5 × 10-6Ωm at zero magnetic field and 1.8× 10-5Ωm at magnetic field of about 2.7 kG. At this field the room temperature magnetoresistance Δρ /ρ is larger than one-half which is a giant magnetoresistance.
