Diagnostics for the 5 MeV electron cooling system
Abstract
A prototype of a novel electron cooling system that will operate in the MeV energy range is now being built at Fermilab. This system will have very stringent beam optics requirements. To meet these requirements, beam diagnostics that allow measuring a beam position to 50 μm in 1 Hz BW and a beam diameter to 0.1 mm out of 1 cm needs to be developed. In this paper we describe various possible diagnostics, discuss their limitations and preliminary test results.
