Geochemical Models of Low-Temperature Alteration of Martian Rocks
Abstract
Alteration of martian basalt, T < 150oC, at high high rock/water will yield: clay + carbonate + qz and near neutral pH water if CO2 = 6 Mbar; and clay + serpentine + diopside, gas rich in H2, and alkaline water (to pH ~12) if CO2 is not externally buffered.
