Effect of meansquare amplitude of atomic vibrations on the creep behaviour of cubic crystals
Abstract
Correlation between the activation energy Q of hightemperature creep and the DebyeWaller thermal parameter B, which is proportional to the meansquare amplitude of atomic vibrations, has been examined in the case of 17 facedcentred cubic, bodycentred cubic and diamondstructure cubic elements. It is observed that Q is a function of B, irrespective of the crystal structure; Q decreases as B increases. The correlation is governed by the powerlaw Q= Q _{0}( B/B _{0})^{ M0 }, where Q _{0}=0.095eV and M _{0}=0.62 are numerical constants determined by leastsquares fit method, and the constant B _{0}=1 nm^{2}.
