Activity of the soft gamma repeater SGR 1900 + 14 in 1998 from Konus-Wind observations: 1. Short recurrent bursts
Abstract
Observations of the soft gamma repeater SGR 1900+14 with a gamma-ray-burst spectrometer on board the Wind spacecraft during the source reactivation from May 1998 through January 1999 are reported. Individual characteristics of recurrent bursts, such as their time histories, energy spectra, and maximum fluxes and fluences, are considered. Some statistical distributions and relations are also presented. The close similarity of these events to the recurrent bursts from other SGRs underlines a common emission mechanism.
