Polystyrene-Polyethylene Oxide Copolymer Aggregation at the Air Water Interface
Abstract
Although spread films of PS-PEO block copolymers at the air/water interface have been widely studied, little is known about the lateral conformation of the polymer. It is often assumed to be a cohesive film, however our studies indicate the presence of surface aggregates, including extended rods and spheres, even at high surface pressures. AFM together with TEM has been used to image dipped films of thse monolayers. The dependence of the aggregation morphology on polymer molecular weight, relative block length and polydispersity will be discussed.
