XTE Observation of the TYCHO Supernova Remnant
Abstract
The most sensitive X-ray measurements of Tycho SNR by Ginga shows that Tycho's observed X-ray continuum requires a two-component continuum model to yield acceptable fits with spectral parameters of the hard X-ray component remaining uncertain. Interestingly, the power-law index of Tycho's X-ray continuum (Gamma~2.7) is similar to the one of Cas A detected recently by CGRO/OSSE (Gamma~3.0). Also for their power-law index of radio spectra, alpha=0.61 for Tycho and alpha=0.76 for Cas A are close, suggesting they may be correlated and produced by the same mechanism. We propose a 2E4 sec. XTE observation of Tycho SNR with the purpose: To obtain a 2-100 keV Tycho's X-ray spectrum so its hard X-ray spectral shape can be identified definitely.
