Fo Aquarii -- the Key to Intermediate Polar Spin-Pulses
Abstract
Spin pulses in intermediate polars are normally quasi-sinusoidal. However, higher quality data increasingly reveals more structure, such as the `notch' in the spin-pulse of FO Aqr. These features are the key to understanding intermediate polar spin-pulses in general, giving, for instance, a firm limit on the size of the accretion region. Previous data with Ginga and ASCA is insufficient to follow the spectral changes through the notch, and so deduce its cause. XTE data will provide much smaller error bars, enabling us to deduce the origin of the notch, and hence of the spin pulse itself.
