Submillimetre photometry of protostellar cores in BOK globules
Abstract
JCMT submillimetre continuum observations at 450 and 800mum are presented for 10 dense cores in Bok globules, and observations at 350 and 1100mum are presented for three of the cores. The data are combined with IRAS data at 12-100 μm and IRAM data at 1.3 mm, and the spectral energy distributions of the cores are compiled. The mean temperature of the cold dust in the cores is estimated from greybody fits to be T_d=23+/-3K. Typical gas masses of cores that are forming single or binary stars are ~0.2-2.5 Msolar. Cores that are forming clusters have higher masses, in the range ~3-35 Msolar. The beam-averaged hydrogen column and volume densities are all derived to be in the ranges ~10^22-10^23cm^-2 and ~10^5-10^6cm^-3 respectively. We confirm that CB244 VLA 1 is a Class 0 protostar, and hypothesize that CB17 is a pre-stellar core.
