Influence of Orbital Dynamics in Wide Binary Galaxies
Abstract
Observational results indicate the existence of very wide, physical galaxy pairs. It has been suggested that if wide and close pairs form a single population, then their evolution is characterised by initial orbits of a highly radial variety, which retain their radial shapes till the final stages of orbital evolution. An important dynamical implication of the existence of such pairs is that they support the existence of galaxy pairing in near parabolic orbits of enormous scale. We find that the postulated radial infall evolution, in which circularisation occurs very late, is dynamically compatible.
