The Giant Planets as Seen by ISO (Invited Paper)
Abstract
ISO observations of giant planets have led to a new determination of the deuterimn abundance, the identification of many new species, and the retrieval of atmospheric thermal structures and density distributions. This review presents new results concerning (1) the first identification of tropospheric water on Saturn, (2) the detection of hydrocarbons in the stratospheres of the four giant planets, in the 7-16 um range, and (3) the 2.4-3.5 um spectrum of the giant planets.
