a Search for Pulsed 2-200 KEV Emission from Geminga
Abstract
We propose to search for pulsed emission from the gamma-ray pulsar Geminga. Using the known period and period derivative we can detect pulsed emission well below the usual detection limits of PCA and HEXTE. Geminga is unambiguously detected in high energy gamma-rays (EGRET/COS-B/SAS-2), soft X-rays (ROSAT/Einstein), and as a very faint optical source. Tentative gamma ray detections and upper limits have been reported by Comptel and OSSE respectively. These observations will provide sensitive additional wavelength coverage at energies not previously covered and with interesting sensitivities that are below the extrapolation from the EGRET and ROSAT detections.
