Twodimensional String Theory from the c = 1 Matrix Model
Abstract
We identify the nonlocal and nonlinear operator in the c = 1 matrix model which satisfies the tachyron βfunction equation of 2dimensional string theory in flatspace and lineardilaton background. This reinforces the viewpoint thata nonlocal transform is required to extract the spacetime physics of the 2dimensional strong theory from the matrix model. We also comment on the realization of the Winfinity symmetry of the matrix model in the string theory.
