A mechanism for the formation of plasmoid type coronal mass ejection
Abstract
We study numerically the process of magnetic field reconnection in the current sheet caused by resistive tearing instability, over a base state of two-dimensional (in spherical coordinates) magnetostatic equilibrium. The results show that reconnection with two X points will occur, giving rise to a magnetic island and a hot and dense plasmoid. As the plasmoid rises, it also expands, at a speed that depends on the β value. The results can be used to explain the formatin of plasmoid type coronal mass ejection.
