Collection efficiencies of gauges at varying wind and pitch angles
Abstract
Most of the research work performed so far on deposition gauges has dealt with situations in which their orifices are aligned with the prevailing wind and in which they are situated horizontally above a horizontal ground. In this paper two-dimensional turbulent flow simulations are carried out for the two more important practical situations in which the prevailing wind may be inclined to the plane of the orifice and the gauge is located on an inclined surface. It is found that the angle of incidence of the wind to the plane of the orifice of the gauge constitutes the most critical parameter affecting gauge performance.
