M/L_V of a Super-star Cluster in NGC 1569
Abstract
There is increasing evidence that massive clusters may form in areas of especially vigorous star formation. NGC 1569 is a small, gas-rich system which is similar to a dwarf irregular galaxy in terms of mass, gas content and rotational velocity which appears to have undergone a burst of locally vigorous star formation very recently and there is evidence that the luminosities and dimensions of the super-star clusters seen in this galaxy are similar to what would be expected for young globular clusters. In this paper we present a determination of the {M/L_V} for one of these clusters in NGC 1569 based upon CFHT observations. Implications for massive cluster formation will be discussed.
