TU Leonis = (8) Flora: the non-existence of a U Geminorum star
Abstract
The U Gem star (or dwarf nova or cataclysmic variable) TU Leo has been studied frequently since its discovery in 1928. There exists definitively only one observation that shows the object during an outburst. The authors demonstrate that this 1917 key observation was simulated by the accidental imaging of minor planet (8) Flora. The object is proved to be an unconspicuous 15mag G star, and TU Leo has to be deleted from the files of U Gem stars.
