Modelling the 1.8MeV sky: Tracers of massive star nucleosynthesis.
Abstract
COMPTEL, the imaging telescope on the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory, has mapped the sky in 1.809MeV gamma-ray line emission attributed to radioactive ^26^Al with an angular resolution of ~1°. This allows for the first time correlation studies of spatial distributions determined for different ^26^Al candidate-source types with the apparent sky distribution of this radio-isotope. The strengths and weaknesses of different source tracers with respect to massive-star nucleosynthesis of ^26^Al are discussed.
