First Observation of the Decay Ξ+c-->Ξ0e+νe and an Estimate of the Ξ+c Ξ0c Lifetime Ratio
Abstract
Using the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring we have observed the decay modes Ξ+c-->Ξ0e+νe and Ξ0c-->Ξ-e+νe by the detection of a Ξ-positron pair of appropriate invariant mass. We find B\(Ξ+c-->Ξ0e+νe\)σ\(e+e--->Ξ+cX\) = 1.55+/-0.33+/-0.25 pb, B\(Ξ0c-->Ξ-e+νe\)σ\(e+e--->Ξ0cX\) = 0.63+/-0.12+/-0.10 pb, B\(Ξ+c-->Ξ-π+π+\)/B\(Ξ+c-->Ξ0e+νe\) = 0.44+/-0.11+0.11-0.06, and B\(Ξ0c-->Ξ-π+\)/B\(Ξ0c-->Ξ-e+νe\) = 0.32+/-0.10+0.05-0.03. Assuming the Ξ+c and Ξ0c are equally produced in e+e- annihilation events at 10 GeV, the lifetime ratio of Ξ+c/Ξ0c is measured to be 2.46+/-0.70+0.33-0.23.
