Randomness and dissipation from interaction with the environment
Abstract
We apply the stochastic formulation of the Feynman integral in order to describe the interaction of a quantum particle with the environment. We eliminate the environment coordinates and derive a closed equation of motion for a particle in a reservoir. We show that the reservoir makes the oscillator frequency a random variable in accordance with Kubo's theory of the spectral line shape.
