A selfconsistent method for determining the effective mass of an electron in a manyelectron system within the HartreeFock approximation
Abstract
An analytic expression for the effective mass m ^{∗} of an electron in a free electron gas system is obtained in the HartreeFock (HF) approximation using the results for the low temperature specific heat. The resulting expression is solved selfconsistently, which gets rid of the divergence encountered in the value of m ^{∗} in the HF approximation.
