Measurements of the number of neutrons emitted per fission in a fast neutron spectrum for 235U, 237Np, and 243Am
Experiments were designed and performed to determine the number of neutrons emitted per fission, v, for 235U, 237Np and 243Am in a fast neutron spectrum. The neutron emission rates were observed using three proton recoil detectors. The detection system's efficiency was determined using a 252Cf source. The fission rate measurements were performed using solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTD). The measured values of v in the fast spectrum of the 144 keV silicon-filtered neutron beam for 235U, 237Np, and 243Am are 2.54 ± 0.06, 3.13 ± 0.12, and 4.00 ± 0.35, respectively.
