The densest prestellar condensations: H2CO Studies ofρ Oph B1
Abstract
Theρ Oph B1 cloud core region is unique in that it exhibits 2-cm H2CO line emission over a substantial area (indicating gas densities ≥ 106 cm-3), while lacking any known embedded infrared sources. Subsequent H2CO studies at the VLA and the JCMT have not provided a consistent model of the gas structure and kinematics. Here, we present the first high-velocity resolution maps in the 218 GHz and 352 GHz transitions of H2CO. Our multi-transition study, at velocity and spatial resolutions comparable to existing VLA data, has proven crucial to forming a coherent picture of the gas kinematics.
