Titan II planetary delivery launch system
Abstract
The Air Force Titan II Space Launch Vehicle (SLV), a refurbished Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), successfully provided the initial boost phase for the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Deep Space Program Science Experiment (DSPSE) on January 25, 1994. Integrated with a STAR 37FM Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) Interstage, the Titan II launch vehicle injected approximately 454 kilograms into DSPSE's initial translunar orbit. This paper will address the versatility and viability of the Titan II for future planetary missions.
