Maser mechanism of pulsar radio emission
Abstract
A new maser mechanism of pulsar radio emission is suggested and calculated. We assume a system of currents to form in the equatorial plane near the light cylinder. The system consists of charges oscillating across the plane and drifting along it at a relativistic velocity. We analyzed dynamics of currents in the region adjacent to the light cylinder. On the basis of this analysis, we calculated the maser mechanism that involves interaction of relativistic anharmonic oscillators with a high-quality mode of the whispering-gallery type, guided by the corotating (dense) part of the pulsar magnetosphere. We estimate the emission power, characteristic frequencies, and directivity pattern; these quantities are consistent with observational data.
