Observations of solar microwave spikes with high spatial resolution at the SSRT: first results.
Abstract
The first observations of spatial and temporal features of subsecond spike events at the Siberian Solar Radio Telescope (SSRT) are reported. For the limb event of 2 November 1992 the emission source was found to be located at a height of 35 thousand km above the photosphere. The apparent size of the spike emission source (tens of arcsec) is unexpectedly large and comparable with those of the corresponding burst continuum source. The possible role of electron cyclotron maser emission (ECME) mechanism and plasma emission is discussed and the plasma parameters are estimated in the framework of these two models.
