Anomalous poleward drift of the solar magnetic fields as a result of Rossby cyclone excitation.
Abstract
A numerical simulation of the process of generation of the magnetic field by a large-scale cyclone in the Rossby regime in the presence of a shearing flow in latitude, has been carried out. The poleward drift of the cyclone leads to a corresponding drift of a global magnetic structure formed by it. The time evolution of the axisymmetric component of the magnetic field has the aspect of a double surge of fields with opposite signs. In this case the field of leading polarity is the first to reach the pole, which agrees qualitatively with experimental data on anomalous poleward drifts of magnetic fields after polar field reversals.
