A complex continuum model for the low-mass X-ray binary dipping sources: application to X 1624-49.
Abstract
We propose a two-component or complex continuum model for the Low Mass X-Ray Binary dipping sources consisting of a blackbody and a power law in which the blackbody is identified with point source emission from a neutron star, and the power law with Comptonised emission. In the case of the dipping source X 1624-49 this model gives good fits to both non-dip and to dip spectra for the quiescent (ie non-flaring) source. Our model is able to predict the depth of saturated dipping in this source and explain why the depth is greater at higher energies. Comparison of our results for X 1624-49 with those we previously obtained for X 1755-33 suggests that the greater depth of dipping in X 1624-49 is primarily due to its higher blackbody temperature.
