Simulation methods for fluid systems with interfaces
Abstract
Two major methods can be used to simulate flow in the presence of interfaces. The interface monitoring methods use markers which move with the fluid, such that the interface can be reconstituted from the markers' position. The interface capture methods resort to volume indicators and are adaptable to complex topologies. In parallel with these methods, the Boltzmann method was developed from the specific method used for gas in networks; it is particularly well adapted to parallel machine programming. Also mentioned are methods specific to certain problems or sets of equations. The various methods are compared and application examples are given.
