Evidence for t(bar t) production at the Tevatron: Statistical significance and cross section
Abstract
We summarize here the results of the 'counting experiments' by the CDF Collaboration in the search of t(bar t) production in p(bar p) collisions at square root of s = 1800 TeV at the Tevatron. We analyze their statistical significance by calculating the probability that the observed excess is a fluctuation of the expected backgrounds, and assuming the excess is from top events, extract a measurement of the t(bar t) production cross-section.
