General procedures employed in the generation of three-dimensional hybrid structured/unstructured meshes
Abstract
An overview is given of the procedure pursued for the generation of meshes composed of both block-structured hexahedral elements and irregularly connected tetrahedral elements. Algorithms are identified that have been instrumental in the development of a mesh generation facility that allows high quality hybrid meshes to be formed efficiently for geometrically complex domains. Examples of the application of the algorithms are given in a companion paper within the same conference proceedings.
