NonFermi liquid and spinglass behavior of the Sc _{1 x}U _{x}Pd _{3} system
Abstract
Previous electrical resistivity ρ( T), magnetic susceptibility χ( T), and specific heat C( T) measurements on the Y _{1  x}U _{x}Pd _{3} system have revealed Kondo behavior for 0 < x ≲ 0.2 and spinglasslike behavior for 0.3 ≲ x ≲ 0.5. The Kondo behavior is unusual and characterized by nonFermi liquid behavior atlow temperatures T ≪ T_{K}, where T_{K} is the Kondo temperature: ρ( T)/ ρ(0) ≈ 1  T/( aT_{K}) and C( T)/ T ≈  (1/ T_{K})ln T with evidence for a finite T = 0 residual entropy S(0) = ( R/2)ln(2). We report measurements of ρ( T), χ( T), and C( T) on the Sc _{1  x}U _{x}Pd _{3} system which reveal similar Kondo, nonFermi liquid, and spinglass behaviors.
