Mössbauer filtration of synchrotron radiation at an isotope interface
Abstract
Mössbauer filtration of synchrotron radiation (SR) due to the resonant Mössbauer scattering at an isotope interface (a plane interface between different isotopes of the same chemical element) under conditions of total internal reflection is theoretically investigated. The scheme of Mössbauer filtration of SR allows one to suppress the background connected with the nonresonant SR scattering because of the absence of reflection at the isotope interface if there is no resonant scattering. It is also shown that an additional decrease of the background connected with SR reflection at an interface vacuum-non-Mössbauer isotope may be achieved if the vacuum-non-Mössbauer isotope interface has a saw-like profile. Numerical calculations illustrating advantages of the proposed scheme of SR Mössbauer filtration are carried out for a {56Fe }/{57Fe } isotope interface.
