The Anomalous Magnetic Moments of the Charged Leptons: the Electron, the Muon, and the Tau
Abstract
Scope and method of study. The purpose of this study was to calculate the anomalous magnetic moments of the muon and the tau leptons. These calculations are both numerical and analytical. The IBM mainframe was used for the numerical calculations. The analytical calculations were done by expansion in the small mass ratios m _{e}/m_mu, m_ {e}/m_tau and m_ mu/m_tau. Findings and conclusions. We have obtained very precise predictions for the anomalous magnetic moments of the muon, a_mu and the tau lepton a_tau. Our results are a_mu = 116591902(77) times 10^{-11} and a_ tau = 11773(3) times 10^{-7} where a = (g-2)/2. These predictions can now be compared with very accurate experiments to be done in the near future to test the theory of Quantum Electrodynamics (QED).
