Calculated Characteristics of Wide Parabolic Quantum Wells
Abstract
We have calculated self consistent electron wavefunctions and densities in wide parabolic quantum wells subject to applied perpendicular magnetic fields. Several different Local Density Approximations are utilized to describe the electron-electron interactions in these systems. We have included the effects of spin and used broadened energy levels in our calculations. We find unexpected spectral features, a spin inversion regime of magnetic field, and a collective spin polarization of the electrons under specific conditions. We also observe structure in optical absorbtion characteristics which correspond to subband populations. We conclude that wide parabolic quantum wells possess a variety of emergent phenomena arising from their quasi 3D nature.
