Effects of the CoarseGraining Scale
Abstract
The scale dependent nature of coarsegraining is investigated by deriving the collision term of the Boltzmann equation. Numerical evaluation of the collision term is carried out in a onedimensional mass sheet system. This shows that the collision term contains only the phasemixing effect if the number of particles in a coarsegrained volume is sufficiently large. This result also indicates that Nbody simulations can trace the original system exactly over a time scale proportional to the number of particles in the simulation, after which the scattering effect becomes important.
