Griffith crack located asymmetrically in an infinitely long elastic strip
Abstract
This study examines the validity of the approximate solution for a Griffith crack located asymmetrically in an infinitely long elastic strip. A limiting case of the problem specifically an elastic half plane containing a crack parallel to its free boundary is obtained if the distance between the crackline and the edge of the strip nearer to it is kept fixed while the distance between the crackline and the other edge is allowed to increase indefinitely. This limiting formulae is compared with those in the literature.
