The Calibration of MK Spectral Classes Using Spectral Synthesis. I. The Effective Temperature Calibration of Dwarf Stars
Abstract
Synthetic spectra based on the new Kurucz models and calculated using the International Business Machines (IBM) personal computer (PC)-based program SPECTRUM (which is described and made available to the astronomical community) are classified using the techniques of MK spectra classification against digital spectra of MK standards. The results are used to calibrate the MK system for solar-composition dwarf stars from B1 V to K5 V in terms of effective temperature.
