More ultraluminous IRAS galaxies as interacting systems.
Abstract
We provide in this paper a brief report on a study of a sample of IRAS ultraluminous galaxies from data collected at the Byurakan and Zelenchuk Observatories. Both the prime focus images and the long slit spectroscopy indicate that most of these objects are experiencing gravitational interactions. In the case of IRAS 17526+9253 and IRAS 20550+1656, we have analyzed in detail the kinematics of the system. We conclude that, in this sample, most galaxies are indeed interacting systems and that this might be related to their large intrinsic infrared emission.
