Atmospheric propagation analysis program
Abstract
The Electro-Optics Branch (Code 754) of the Naval Command, Control and Ocean Surveillance Center (NCCOSC) RDT&E Division has been assigned by NAVSEA under the Photonics Mast Program to conduct experiments to compare the performance of 3- to 5-micron and 8- to 14-micron FLIR systems in typical submarine periscope imaging environments. This report evaluates the performance of each FLIR system based on atmospheric transmittance measurements in both bands and minimum resolvable temperature (MRT) tests in two extreme weather environments (low and high precipitable water content).
