Hybrid engines and power plants concepts for space objects
Abstract
The concept of a hybrid engine for an aerospace vehicle (ASV) is proposed whereby operating regimes are combined with electric power generation. Hydrogen hybrid engines and solar/nuclear power plant are considered as possible implementations, and the new functional possibilities afforded by these concepts are examined. Cost analysis results are presented, including estimates of cost-optimized parametric ratios determining the competitiveness of alternative hybrid engine concepts.
