Results of the development and characterization of stationary plasma thrusters (SPT) in the power range 2-30 kW are reported. In particular, it is shown that efficiencies of 60-70 percent can be achieved for SPTs of traditional design with an accelerating channel of 140-290 mm in external diameter and exhaust velocities of 20-30 km/s. The possibility of the efficient operation of SPTs using low-cost krypton is also demonstrated. It is concluded that efficient enough STPs can be developed for use as primary thrusters for various missions.
