Semiunstructuredgrid method for external viscous flow computations
Abstract
A new approach to compute external viscous flows around an airplane is discussed. A prismatic grid employed in the method is unstructured on the threedimensional surface. This allows a solutionadaptive grid refinement for the accuracy improvement. The direction away from the body surface in the grid is structured so as to achieve efficient and accurate computations for highReynolds number viscous flows. The prismatic grid is generated by a marchingtype procedure in which grid spacings are controlled by a variational method. The capability of the method is demonstrated by applying it to a viscous flow computation around an aircraft configuration.
