Theoretical description and operational experience of a new gyro based Earth pointing control mode for the Olympus satellite after spacecraft recovery
Abstract
A new attitude measurement concept for the control of the Olympus satellite is described. It is a gyro-based Earth-pointing reference system with daily updates by optical measurements. The importance of accurate gyro calibrations is emphasized. Theoretical background for and operational experience obtained with this concept are discussed. An analytical model for the control errors is presented and the corresponding equations are solved.
