Modulation of the barometric coefficients of neutron monitors at the Kiel and Moscow stations during solar cycle 22
Abstract
Time variations of barometric coefficients, related to the modulation of galactic cosmic rays, are investigated with reference to neutron monitor data obtained at the Kiel and Moscow stations during 1991. The mean monthly data are found to be in good agreement with the predictions of a simple two-parameter model, whose parameters have been determined with sufficient accuracy due to the anomalously large variations of cosmic rays during solar cycle 22. There are significant differences between the barometric and variational barometric coefficients of the neutron monitors at the two stations, which indicates the existence of substantial differences in coupling functions for these stations.
