Magnetic field dynamics and the formation, evolution, and decay of a filament on the sun
Abstract
A comparative study is made of the relationship of the appearance, evolution and sudden disappearance of a dark filament with magnetic field variations. The filament that appeared at the outer boundary of an active region, intrudes - during the early stage of its evolution - the active region along the polarity inversion line, following a decrease in magnetic field gradients in this line. An abrupt increase of values of magnetic field gradients in some parts of the polarity inversion line was followed by a sudden disappearance of the filament as a whole.
