The globular clusters-galaxy connection
Abstract
The present volume on the globular cluster-galaxy connection discusses the stellar content of galactic globular clusters, the relationship between the galactic globular clusters and other galactic populations, the globular cluster systems of the Magellanic Clouds, and the globular cluster populations of M31 and M33. Attention is given to extragalactic globular cluster systems, observational examples of analogs to protoglobular clusters, space-based observations of globular clusters, theories for the formation and evolution of globular clusters, and the formation and evolution of globular cluster systems within the context of their parent galaxies. Topics addressed include the globular cluster color-magnitude diagrams, the disk population of globular clusters, space velocities of globular clusters, and the globular cluster metallicity distribution. Also discussed are globular cluster luminosity functions, new theoretical relations for zero-age horizontal branches, the old open clusters of the Milky Way, and families of early-type stellar systems.
