GINGA Results of TYPE-2 AGN / Active Galactic Nuclei and Their Contributions to the Cosmic X-Ray Background
Abstract
X-ray emission from type 2 Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) are studied with the Ginga satellite. Many of the sample of optically selected Seyfert 2s show low energy cutoffs, while some of them show reflected components. Some narrow line radio galaxies are found to have obscured nuclei. Thus, so called unified model of the active galactic nuclei is supported by the analysis of the X-ray spectrum. However the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) selected Seyfert 2 galaxies show different phenomena. An origin of the cosmic X-ray background is discussed based on the unified picture of the AGN.
