Application of penalty constraints for multibody dynamics of large space structures
Abstract
A method to couple multiple simulations modelling separate vehicle dynamics using the penalty method is presented. The method proposed is targeted for practical applications involving docking/berthing with closed loop simulations and capturing of flexible body with flexible manipulator. To increase robustness, a rigid body predictor is used to estimate the internal constraint forces. The examples presented are a simple one dimensional spring/mass system and a more complex 3852 degrees of freedom model of the Space Station.
